It’s not just you
Being locked out of Snapchat with no clear reason is a gutting feeling, especially if it held years of Memories, your streaks and the people you talk to every day. I went through it in July 2026, the same month I lost two family members. I’m not going to pretend there’s a magic fix. But there is a sensible way through it.
1. Work out what kind of lock it is
- Temporary lock: Snapchat shows a time. Wait it out and don’t keep retrying.
- Permanent account lock: the account can’t log in on any phone.
- Device block: the phone itself is blocked, often shown as support code SS06. The difference explained.
2. Secure everything else
If there’s any chance someone else got into your account, change the password on the email linked to Snapchat first, then turn on two-factor authentication everywhere you can.
3. Send one good appeal
- Use the appeal option at login if it appears, or Snapchat Support at help.snapchat.com.
- Give your username and the email or phone on the account.
- Say briefly, and politely, why you think it’s a mistake.
- Save the date, any code and any ticket number.
- Wait. Snapchat says repeated appeals can be deprioritised.
4. Don’t make it worse
- Don’t pay anyone who promises an unban; only Snapchat can do that.
- Don’t share your password or login codes with anyone.
- Don’t use modified Snapchat apps or tweaks.
- Don’t try to trick a ban with someone else’s details; it breaks Snapchat’s terms.
5. Keep creating
Losing Snapchat usually means losing a habit: the quick wide selfie video, music on, posted every day. You can keep that habit going without Snapchat. Your iPhone’s own camera can widen the front view (iPhone 11 and later), and Music Wide Selfie is an iPhone camera built for exactly this: the widest front view your iPhone has, with your music still playing, saved straight to your Photos. Here’s how to keep filming.
What I did
I kept filming. I’d been posting motivational videos every day, and I didn’t want one company’s decision to end that habit. So I started building the camera I missed. The full story is here, and if you’d like one email when it’s ready, join the waitlist.
