1440p vs 4K video: which should you record?
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answer4K for detail and room to crop; 1440p to save space. On a phone screen the difference is small.
4K is 3840 x 2160 pixels. 1440p is 2560 x 1440 pixels, which is about 44% as many pixels as 4K.
How to choose
- 4K gives more detail and room to crop or reframe, but files are larger.
- 1440p is a middle ground when storage is tight.
- 1080p is usually fine for phone-screen viewing.
Use our file size calculator to estimate storage before a long shoot.
