How to edit videos on your iPhone: the basics
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerStart in the Photos app: tap Edit to trim, crop, straighten and adjust colour. For cutting several clips together with music and titles, use a free editor such as Apple’s iMovie or the editor built into the app you post on.
Photos app
- Trim the start and end.
- Crop and straighten.
- Adjust exposure and colour.
- Edits can be undone later with Revert.
Multi-clip editing
Editors let you put clips in order, cut mistakes, add music, text and transitions. Pick one and learn it well rather than switching often.
Workflow
- Put clips in order.
- Cut everything that doesn’t add something.
- Add music and balance it under your voice.
- Add captions.
- Export at the resolution you filmed in.
Questions
Does editing in Photos lose quality?
Basic edits are saved non-destructively, so you can revert to the original.
