What a POV video is, and how to film one
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerA POV (point of view) video shows a moment as if the viewer were there: film from where their eyes would be, talk to the lens as if it were a person, and keep it short with one clear situation.
Two kinds of POV
- First person: the camera is your eyes, such as walking into a café.
- Second person: you act towards the camera as if the viewer is someone in the scene.
Filming tips
- Hold the camera at eye height for first-person shots.
- Move slowly; fast pans feel chaotic.
- For second-person, look at the lens and react as if to a person.
- Put the situation in a short caption: ‘POV: …’.
Keep it short
Most POV videos work best at 10–30 seconds with one clear idea.
Questions
Do I need special gear?
No. A steady hand or a simple gimbal helps for walking shots.
